Matching vs. going

Complementary colors are opposites on the color wheel by Goethe

There’s quite a bit of difference between matching your clothes and accessories and having things go together. Matching is easy to explain by example: wearing a purple top with navy jeans and then matching purple flats. Going together takes a little more effort and creativity. Picking things out that go together means working with complementary colors. For example, wearing a burgundy blouse, navy jeans and gold flats is going. Going together makes a little more sense for those who want to build a more refined, sophisticated wardrobe. Although matching is easy and works on some occasions, we urge you to go instead of match!
